AMVETS seek community support during fundraising event next Friday thru Sunday
The AMVETS will have their food trailer up and running and will be cooking at Hy-Vee Fresh Friday through Sunday, August 21-23 starting around 10:30 a.m.This is going to be the fundraiser for the Scholarship Program in our area. As always, it is free will donation. The menu includes soda, chips, and sandwich – burger, brat, or hot dog. Our community support is appreciated.

Shellsburg American Legion Breakfast This Saturday
The Shellsburg American Legion is holding Saturday morning breakfast. The hours are the same, 8 - 10 am. We ask people to social distant at the tables (families of course can sit together) and wear masks if you choose. The breakfast will be served to keep handling items to a minimum. We will try this as long as the state allows dining of 10 or more in restaurants.

6th-8th Grade students invited to Compete in Patriot's Pen Essay Contest
The Smith-Geater Post 8884 and Auxiliary will be holding their annual Patriot's Pen Youth Essay Competition. Any Middle school students in grades 6th-8th, from the area, are eligible to enter the contest. There is an opportunity to win cash prizes into thousands of dollars in national awards. The Patriot's Pen writing contest began in 1995 as a way to encourage young people to learn about and write about American history.
Can Drive in Shellsburg to benefit Canton-Benton-Shellburg Volunteer Fire Dept.
I will be hosting a can drive Saturday, August 1st from 8 am to noon. All empty cans and plastic bottle bags will go to the can shed.
